FLUKE and FLEA ukuleles by Flea Market Music

FLUKE and FLEA ukuleles were developed by Dale Webb. Dale wanted to produce a quality ukulele for under $200. The most expensive part of building a ukulele is bending the wood, so Dale used plastic for the body. Rich sound, great projection and unique appearance have made the FLUKES and FLEAS a must have ukulele for all players worldwide. The best part is they stand up on their own, you can set one on the kitchen counter, a dresser, or any other flat surface, so you can grab a FLUKE or FLEA ukulele at any time.

It all started in 1999 when Dale Webb started cooking up the plastic backs for these in his oven! The FLUKE ukulele was born!

The fluke ukulele is an amazing little instrument! The back is made of Injection molded ABS with fiber glass reinforcement (a type of plastic) and the fingerboard is made of Injection molded Polycarbonate, (another kind of plastic) a Rosewood fingerboard is optional. The FLUKE ukulele with the special Injection molded back is an instrument that is durable and rugged. Also; it's louder, more focused, and provides greater projection than standard wood Ukuleles in it's price range. FLUKE ukuleles have warm, rich sound.

The idea of an instrument with a plastic back started in 1966 when Charles H. Kaman, President and founder of Kaman Corp. Developed the revolutionary Ovation roundback, it was guitar with a round plastic back. The OVATION GUITARS and UKULELES are still very popular today. People love the rich sound and projection they get from an inexpensive instrument.

The FLUKE ukulele is available in both CONCERT and TENOR sizes. Originally FLUKE ukuleles were only available in CONCERT size and with the plastic fingerboard. When FLEA MARKET MUSIC decided to offer the fluke ukulele in a TENOR size they realized that the plastic fingerboard would not work well for wound strings (typically a tenor ukulele has one string that is wound with metal). That is why they now offer the ROSEWOOD fingerboard as an option. A ROSEWOOD fingerboard is an available option on all of the FLUKE and FLEA UKULELES that FLEA MARKET MUSIC offers.

This ukulele has a flat bottom just like the FLUKE ukulele so it will stand up on it's own.

In 2003, With the success of the FLUKE ukulele, FLEA MARKET MUSIC introduced the FLEA, a soprano version that is also available as a concert size.

FLUKE and FLEA ukuleles are great to have around the house because they are very durable and they stand up on their own. Every ukulele player should have a few of them. Many people think the FUKE and FLEA ukuleles are the best sounding instruments in the price rage. Best of all they are made in the USA!

This is a new model; the SURF FLEA. It comes standard with lots of extras, and is not available as a basic model with a plastic fingerboard. All SURF FLEA ukuleles have a TIKI KING "SURF" design, a rosewood fingerboard, a walnut neck,and a wood bridge. 

The rosewood fingerboard dose have a more traditional feel and look, but many players think the plastic fingerboard has a nice feel as well. Some serious uke players prefer the plastic! The sound difference between the two is not very noticeable. On most FLUKE and FLEA models the rosewood fingerboard is a $75 upgrade.
