KALA brand ukuleles may have just begun but their roots go back a little bit

Mike Upton is the founder of KALA Brand Music Co. and KALA Brand Ukulele. (Kala also makes MAKALA ukuleles) Mike became acquainted with the charm of the ukulele at an early age as his Dad would strum the "uke" and sing old standards, entertaining the family, neighbors, and worshiping in Church. The sweet, soothing sound was the best pacifier for a fidgety child like Mike, so as he grew up, you guessed it, Mike started playing the bass. Four strings like the uke, only much larger and able to rattle your teeth with the proper amplification i.e. Ampeg SVT 300 Watt Tube Head through a 8x10 cabinet. Anyway, back to the ukulele, Mike re-engaged with the uke while living on heavenly Lanikai Beach in 1991 with his wife, Wendy. You were just starting to hear and see more and more people playing ukulele back then. Mikes interest continued as he became the Hawaii Sales Representative for the Hohner Company in 1997. he found out very quickly that there were very few quality, affordable ukuleles available in the Islands. So with that in mind, he set out and with some help developed a popular ukulele line. In July of 2005 Mike went out on his own to start KALA Ukulele to continue to expand what is possible in the realm of quality, affordable instruments for the Ukulele Enthusiast and Novice alike.

KALA KA-ASMT

This is the KALA KA-ASMT model, it is an all solid mahogany TENOR ukulele.

Most inexpensive ukuleles are made out of laminates. Laminates are pieces of wood or ply's glued together. Better quality, or professional instruments are made from all solid wood. Instruments that are made from all solid wood are much louder and have a much richer tone than those made from laminates. If you have never played or heard an all solid wood instrument you are in for a pleasent suprise.

The KALA KA-ASMT ukulele is made from all solid mahogany. It is one of the least expensive all solid wood ukuleles with a list price of only $320.00.

These ukuleles have a traditional vintage look and sound. They are trimed with faux tortoise shell binding and have a mahogany neck and a rosewood fingerboard. These ukes have a very simple satin finish that keep the look and sound nice and clean with great projection.

Kala KA-T Tenor ukulele
