Three great starter Ukuleles by KALA

MK-S

The MK-S is a MAKALA ukulele. KALA uses the MAKALA brand name for their entry level ukuleles. MAKALA ukuleles are made out of agathis instead of mahogany, like the KALAS. Agathis is a wood very similar to mahogany in appearance and tone. The makala MK-S has brass frets, a rosewood fingerboard, and quality geared tuning keys. Rosewood is the preferred wood for fingerboards, most better quality instruments have rosewood fingerboards.

KA-15S

The KALA KA-15S ukulele is very similar to the MAKALA MK-S. As you can see in the picture above they look almost the same. The KA-15S has brass frets and a rosewood fingerboard just like the MK-S, but the KA-15S is made out of mahogany instead of agathis. Mahogany is a very popular wood for ukuleles and provides a warm rich sound. The popular Martin ukuleles made in the 1920's were made out of mahogany.

KA-S

The KALA KA-S is the nicest of the three starter ukuleles. The KA-S has a rosewood fingerboard and is made out of mahogany like the KA-15S, but it has nickel frets instead of brass frets. Nickel is the preferred metal for frets on musical instruments. The KA-S also has white binding on the top and bottom of the body that adds to the appearance.
