Ukulele Sizes

If you are shopping for your fist ukulele you will notice there are a number of different sizes available, and you may be wondering what the difference is and what size to buy. The information that follows will help you to understand the different sizes available.

Ukuleles are available in 4 different sizes; The SOPRANO is the smallest at about 21", next is the CONCERT at about 24", next is the TENOR ukulele at about 26" long, and the BARITONE is the largest at about 30" long.

The most Popular Ukulele is the soprano, the smallest one. Most often when you see someone playing a ukulele it is a soprano size. The soprano is also the most popular size for a starter ukulele. You will find some reviews of some great soprano starter ukuleles in the Starter Ukes section of this website.

Since the ukulele is such a small instrument, more experienced players may find it hard to play complex chords because the frets are so close together. This is especially true higher up on the fretboard. A more experienced player may prefer a CONCERT, or a TENOR size ukulele to make it possible to play more complex chords, or to make more complex arrangements easier to play.
