The 4 Note Blues Scale (this is a minor scale)

This is an easy scale to get you started playing licks.

It's a simple little blues box with just 4 notes... The les notes you have to use the better the chance you will use just GOOD , TASTY, TOP NOTCH choices...

This is based on the minor pentatonic form 2, but with one less note. The 5th tone is missing.

You can get the Pentatonic Scale and the Blues Scale in all keys, all forms, in "UKULELE CHEAT CODES" and by joining me on patreon.

4 Note Blues Scale is a Minor scale and has the following intervals: R, b3, 4, and b7.

It's starts and ends on the root note, it's in the key of Am.

A|------3--5--3------------|E|---5-----------5--3--5---|C|-------------------------|G|-------------------------|
Here are some videos, with the scale - played root note to root note and all 5 licks!

SHORT (less than a minute - with the 5 licks):

LONG FORM VIDEO- with the 5 licks, some explanations and a demo of vibrato:

You too can be a blues master with just 4 notes - don't confuse yourself with lots of complicated scales when you're just starting out.

Play 5 Licks!

Here's some easy licks for you... (/ = slide up to the note; ~ = vibrato), skip the vibrato if you're just starting out... Keep it simple.

Make that single note sing by sliding up to it (yes some of the coolest licks may be just a few notes!

A|---------------------|E|---/5~---------------|C|---------------------|G|---------------------|
Now we add a few more notes...
A|------------------/3-------------|E|---/3~----------------5~---------|C|---------------------------------|G|---------------------------------|
A|---------------3--5--------------|E|---/5~---------------5~----------|C|---------------------------------|G|---------------------------------|
Simple aren't they - you may recognize some of them, there're real licks!
Next, we add some hammer ons and pull offs (h = hammer on; p = pull off)
A|--------------------------------------|E|---5--3--5~---------3--h5--p3~--------|C|--------------------------------------|G|--------------------------------------|
Real slow for this one...
A|---3--5--3--5--3----------------------|E|------------------3--5~---------------|C|--------------------------------------|G|--------------------------------------|

You're a pro with just 4 tasty notes... You can do a lot with this.

String these together or go from one to another and you've got an actual real blues solo!

Start with a few - repeat them, don't need to use them all - have fun creating some solos...

This'll work fine for any beginner soloing - and you may impress them when you let um' know you did it all with 4 notes, or maybe just one like the first lick!

This scale is in Am, So, If you're in A or Am you can use the licks as they appear here, otherwise you have to find the root note of the song your in and move '4 Note Blues' scale.

4 Note Blues, Moveable Scale

Here's the movable scale with intervals indicated. Knowing the intervals is handy in case you want to switch this to another scale down the road...

Match up the root note with the root note of the song and away you go...

Don't learn a million scales an blow a fuse...
